The Otto Edelmann Singing Competition Vienna took place for the eighth time in 2024. It was held at the Department of Voice and Music Theatre at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. This competition is aimed at young singers from all over the world with a unique talent and training in opera and operetta singing.
The first round took place on Monday, 23 September 2024, and Tuesday, 24 September 2024, at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre. A total of 94 participants took part in this round. The second round was held on Wednesday, 25 September 2024, also at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre. From the preliminary round, 22 participants qualified for the semi-final. The jury selected nine finalists from six nations (Germany, Korea, Croatia, Austria, the Russian Federation, and Switzerland) for the final. These finalists were accompanied in the final at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre (Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 47, 1130 Vienna) by the Webern Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of the mdw under the musical direction of Mr Vladimir Kiradjiev.
The 94 participants came from 26 nations, including 62 women and 32 men in all voice ranges (1 alto, 15 mezzo-soprano, 46 soprano, 9 tenor, 11 bass, 12 baritone).
